Energy Tax Credit As a homeowner, you may (under the new "stimulus bill") receive a credit of either 30% or up to $1500 on new equipment installation. A tax credit is much better than a deduction. A credit decreases the amount of taxes owed rather than the amount of income (as in a deduction). Even if you owed nothing, you could receive a $1500 refund.
